I want to take the time to dedicate this post to not only my growth but to young creatives who have come far mentally, physically and spiritually. I find when you step out of your comfort zone and get check yaself from time to time, you are putting yourself in a position to learn more about what you want, where you want to be and who you want to be. This year has made me more aware of myself financially and not being afraid to state what I want and how/when to say NO. I used to say YES to everything whether it be a collaboration or idea. And don’t get me wrong, I’ve taken a few L’s and have worked with people whos ideas don’t align with what I support and who I am a person. Yeah it sucks but listen, how else are you going to learn? I am beginning to know my worth as a creative and to say NO to ideas that I believe don’t represent my brand and what I believe in. And to be honest, it feels great! For anyone reading this post and is wanting to get their start in the field of their choice, my advice to you is this:
- Do not settle for anything less than what you want.
- Keep an open mind and be open to feedback.
- Don’t let your 9-5 job stop you from being creative.
- Learn how and when to say NO (maybe I should do a post on this… hmm).
- Think BIG
- When collaborating, make sure both parties are on the same page
- Be a leader –> remember, leaders say LETS GO whereas bosses say GO!
- Be vulnerable for good things come after those moments
- Enjoy the ride!
Now let’s quickly get into this look. As Kanye would say,
“And my bitch in that new Phoebe Philo.”
For those who live under a rock and don’t know the meaning behind Ye’s infamous line, Phoebe Philo is a British fashion designer who served as the creative director of Paris brand Céline. Last December, Philo announced that she will be leaving the Paris brand after 10 years I took a few moments to reflect on her 10 year duration and how she made skateboard culture hella high end with the Céline skateboard decks in the 2011 Spring/Summer collection. Last month, influencer Emily Oberg released a new crewneck from her brand Sporty & Rich that pays homage to her favourite designer. On the front has Philo’s face with a short bio in Japanese. Oberg released a limited quantity of this creweck and ya girl managed to cop one. She paired it with black Alexander Wang ankle boots (no sneakers this time), grey trousers while the S.P. Badu x Parkshop fanny pack sits cute on the waist. Issa look, issa vibe!
