Just Do It

Yes, like the infamous slogan by athletic retailer Nike aka the only sneaker brand that you will see posted up in my shoe closet. Clearly I love the brand a little too much as you can tell in the photos above. I came across this re-worked Nike crop top with mesh on the sleeves and across the top. I recall seeing my fashion mom Aleali May rock a similar Nike crop in one of her fit pics and well, you know how the story ends. I kept the look simple with a pair of black oversized pants with the chain detail, denim jacket and topped the look off with a pair of Nikelab Air Force 1’s on foot.

FACT: Nike’s slogan for Just Do It was inspired by a murderer. Yes, a murderer folks (insert WTF meme)! These three words were the last words said by notorious murderer Gary Gilmore while awaiting execution. He uttered “Let’s do it” and in the 20th century, Dan Wieden, co-founder of Wieden+Kennedy introduced “Just Do It” while at a Nike advertising campaign. Those three words went on to become not only one of the greatest advertising campaigns of all time, but provided feelings of achievement, motivation and empowerment to those who wore the brand.

This look definitely serves as a reminder to Just Do It! Lately, I have been down on myself for I have been blogging for quite some time and while I do love it, it makes me question what else is out there for me and where this platform can take me. Instead of dwelling on situations that will bring me down a dark hole, why not take advantage of opportunities and go all out? Branding is very important and with my following growing on Instagram, why not use that and my blog to help land more collaborations and knowing my creative worth. Exposure gets you so far and it has no real value at the end of the day. If you revert to my Phoebe post, I touch base on knowing your creative worth and learning to say no. These next few months will be my selfish months and it will allow me to go after things that I want not only as a blogger, but a Renaissance woman. Even if it means plotting on how I can be a brand ambassador for Nike, you never know. JUST DO IT YA’LL. √
